Production of Sodium Hypochlorite
- Dissolving salt in water, which results in a concentrated brine solution. The solution is electrolyzed and forms a sodium hypochlorite solution in water. The solution contains 150g active chlorine (Cl2) per liter. A bi-product of this combination is hydrogen gas (H2).
- By adding chlorine gas to caustic soda (NaOH). When this reaction has taken place, sodium hypochlorite is formed. The bi-product of salt (NaCl) is also produced.
